Biography

Eskandar Mokhtari Taleqani was born in 1956 in Tehran, Iran. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Archaeology and Art History from the University of Tehran (1979), a Master’s degree in Architectural Restoration from the University of Art (1995), and a Ph.D. in Art Research with a focus on Architectural Conservation from the University of Art (2007).

Mokhtari has been actively involved in the restoration of numerous historical buildings and complexes in Iran since 1979. Among his most notable roles were serving as the director of the Tehran Historical City Base from 1996 to 2009 and managing the World Heritage Rescue Project in Bam from 2004 to 2009. He retired from the Research Institute of Cultural Heritage and Tourism in 2009.

In academia, Mokhtari has taught conservation and restoration of historic buildings and cities at the Faculty of Art and Architecture at Azad University since 1999. He has also served as a visiting professor at several other Iranian universities, including the University of Tehran and Iran University of Science and Technology.

Mokhtari is a prolific author, with 31 books and over 60 articles published on Iranian architecture and the conservation and restoration of historical monuments. He has actively participated in national and international scientific seminars on the conservation of cultural heritage.

  3. Advisor to the Tehran Beautification Organization (2010–2019)
  4. Member of the Technical Committee for Historic Sites and the National Cultural Heritage Council

  • Teaching in the fields of conservation and restoration of historic buildings at various Iranian universities since 1999
  • Supervising numerous Master’s and Ph.D. theses on conservation and architectural restoration
