Biography
Manouchehr Anvar (born Oct. 12, 1928) Iranian contemporary writer, director, announcer, editor, and translator Childhood and Education He was born in Tehran bypassing the primary course enrolled in the Firooz Bahram high school. In 1944 with the help of Gholam Hossein Salehyar, he established the theatrical section of the Literary Association of Firooz Bahram High School but in the midway, he left the school for England to study in the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts, and in 1953 he was graduated from that Academy. Professional Activities Anvar in 1953 started his artistic activities in London as a writer, announcer, actor of Persian B.B.C Radio. After coming back to Iran in 1958 he joined the Franklin Publication Institution by the invitation of Homayoon Sanatizadeh and established the editing section and he himself became the chief editor of the Institution up to 1962. After joining the National Art Group and Lecturing in university, from 1960 he started to write and perform the texts of the announce of the films. He started his cooperation with Mahmood Mosahab to compile the Mosahab Encyclopedia by writing and translating the entries related to painting, architecture, fine arts, Iran traditional handicrafts. This Cooperation continued up to the completion and publication of the work. His most important artistic works are a documentary film under the title of “The Medicine of Biting” produced in 1964 and the cinematographic copy of the celebrated Bijan Mofid’s Play under the name of the Town of Tale which its script was written by Manouchehr Anvar and Bijan Mofid in 1973 and Anvar directed it. The play of the Town of Tale is one of the most popular artworks in Iran’s contemporary art history. He was assigned as the managing director of the company of Light and Sound (Noor and Seda) in 1967 and started to produce industrial, commercial, and advertising films that kept on for many years. Among the film he produced for this company one may refer to a documentary film about the Bank of Saderate of Iran, a documentary film under the name of Bread from Fire (about the petrochemical Industries), the advertising films for the products of Tide, Minoo, Behsharh Industrial Group and many other companies. Among his artistic achievement, one can mention the establishment of “the Center of Progressive Cinema Workers” which its idea was offered by Parviz Sayyad, Hosshang Baharloo, and Hajir Dariush. Directing (he directed films under the pseudonym of Sharvand) the play of the Bewitched Nightingale, written by Ali Nasirian for presenting in the Nation’s Theater Festival in Paris – April 1960 -. It was the first serious appearance of Iran theater in the International Festivals, 1960 2.
