Together with his son, he currently manages Hor Gallery in Tehran, which was established in 2004. Yaghoub Emdadian is an artist fixated with concepts of colour, space, proportion and geometry. His abstract landscapes recall the visual template of Iranian miniatures, where a scene would be flanked by cartouches of calligraphy, yet Emdadian’s depiction is devoid of any narrative. This striking abstraction is a testament to simplicity and purity of solitary colours, which are free from the distortion of detail. The resulting image is one which affirms the power of the obscure over the particular.
