Biography

Hamidreza Nourbakhsh, born on October 23, 1965, in Qom, Iran, is a prominent Iranian vocalist, a leading instructor of vocal techniques in Persian classical music, and the current CEO of the Iran Music House. He is also a member of its board of directors.

Early Life

Hamidreza Nourbakhsh was born into a culturally rich family in Qom. His father was well-versed in traditional Persian vocal styles and maintained a friendship with Taj Esfahani, one of the last masters of these traditions. Nourbakhsh pursued higher education in law while simultaneously training in Persian classical vocal music under the guidance of Mohammadreza Shajarian.

Artistic Career

Nourbakhsh has collaborated with some of Iran’s most renowned musicians. He released the album Pardeh-ye Eshagh (Veil of Lovers) with Faramarz Payvar and performed as a vocalist in concerts with the Aref Ensemble under the direction of Parviz Meshkatian. His other notable works include the albums Aseman (Sky) with the Shahnazi Ensemble, led by Dariush Pirniakan, and Penhan Cho Del (Hidden Like the Heart) with the Shams Ensemble, led by Keykhosrow Pournazeri.

In 2007, Nourbakhsh performed alongside Keyhan Kalhor at the Théâtre de la Ville in Paris. In the winter of 2009, he and Kalhor held concerts in several European and American countries. Additionally, in 2007, he collaborated with Parviz Meshkatian for a concert at the Ministry of Interior Hall in Tehran.

One of his significant works is the album Saadi Khani (Veshtan), composed by Peyman Soltani, featuring ghazals by the Persian poet Saadi performed with orchestral accompaniment. Nourbakhsh, along with vocalists Ali Asghar Shahzeydi, Mohsen Keramati, Mozaffar Shafiei, and Ali Jahandar, contributed to this project.

Professional and Administrative Roles

Nourbakhsh has held several key positions in Iran’s cultural and artistic institutions, including:

  • CEO of the Iran Music House
  • Member of the Board of Directors of the Iran Music House
  • Member of the Traditional Singers’ Guild of the Iran Music House
  • Member of the Strategic Council of the Artistic Deputy of the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance
  • Member of the Supreme Council of the Iran Artists’ House

He also holds an Artistic Degree of the First Rank (equivalent to a Ph.D.), reflecting his esteemed status in Persian music.

Teaching and Mentorship

Nourbakhsh is a pioneer in teaching vocal techniques for Persian classical music and is recognized as a leading instructor in this field. Among his notable students are Homayoun Shajarian, Mohammad Motamedi, and Vahid Taj, all of whom have become prominent figures in Persian music.
