Biography

Nasr, Karim (born in Rasht, 1952) Iranian contemporary painter and illustrator Karim Nasr besides painting and illustrating is a veteran designer and sculptor he also is active in the field of article writing. Personal Life He was born in 1952 in Rasht one of the northern cities of Iran and the center of the capital city of Gilan Province. Educations He passed his primary and secondary schools in his birth place and then left Iran for England to follow his studies in the field of architecture and by coming back to Iran he entered into the Faculty of Fine Arts of Tehran University to receive his M.A. in the field of Graphic Arts. In his record have been mentioned the membership of the judging board of the sixth Biennale of Iran painting and four courses judging of Iran Biennale of illustration. Nazar Publication has published his book under the title of History of Art, the book that he has compiled for children and young adults. Hassan Moorizi Nejad one of columnists of Tandis Journal in an article was inserted in the issue No. 38 dated 23rd November 2004 has introduced Karim Nasr as one of the eminent Iranian contemporary designers. His last exhibition was held simultaneously in the galleries of Homa and Ann in the first years of 2000s. Shahrooz Nazari wrote in the introduction of the leaflet of exhibition for showing his works: “The Last Hill of East” is the title of the latest Nasr’s paintings which is a realistic reaction to the decay of Middle East against its own oriental disposition, Nasr reminds us that the glory of Hollywood and the hoity toity of the modern world is not regarded as a threat to us, but the threat originates from this fact that from many decades ago we have lost our mental world and being amused with virtual King Kong which is an elapse to forget the griefs of losing our traditions and history and despite the fact that the modern world is void of any intention to invade us, we intentionally place it at the position of invasion and I place emphasize upon some of imaginative views to see the Nasr idea about his hesitation towards the colonialist nature of the invading culture and this time instead of being scared by the illusion of conspiracy, try to investigate the roots of the self-loosing. The East of Nasr is a contemporary Pompeii that have been buried in the outburst of media. The individual Karim Nasr’s exhibitions are alive yet: Vista Gallery displayed the last Hill of the East, Homa Gallery and Ann Gallery, displayed the Serial of Smiles, Tehran, 2010, Homa Gallery, Tehran, 2007. He was awarded more than 20 domestic and abroad prizes for his works in the fields of painting, illustrating and sculpturing. Among these awards one can refer to golden plaque from Bratislava and another golden plaque for his selected designing works from the Iran Biennale Designing. Exhibitions His latest exhibitions under the name of “The Last Hill of the East” was held simultaneously in two galleries of Homa and Ann from 17 to 27 September, 2010. Books Karim Nasr’s painting book was published by Nazar publication in 2008. Nazar in 2010 also published his new book under the title of “Watch out your Diamonds”.
