Biography

Firoozeh Amini was born in 1941 in the city of Neyshabur, Iran. She grew up in an educated and culturally rich family. Her father was fluent in four living languages, including French, and owned an extensive personal library that inspired her lifelong passion for reading and learning. Her mother, an enthusiastic and well-read woman, played a significant role in encouraging her academic and artistic interests.

Amini completed her early education in Neyshabur and studied Experimental Sciences in high school. Alongside her formal studies, she learned various practical arts such as cooking, pastry-making, and sewing, showing remarkable talent in these areas as well. At the age of eighteen, she received her diploma and, due to her outstanding performance in the Ministry of Education entrance examination, was employed by the educational system. Shortly afterward, she married and became the mother of two children.

Professional Career and Artistic Beginnings

For many years, Firoozeh Amini worked in the Iranian educational system as a teacher and later as an assistant principal at a high school in Qazvin. Although she had always been deeply interested in painting, the responsibilities of work and family life prevented her from pursuing art professionally.

A turning point in her artistic journey came when her daughter entered the Faculty of Arts at the University of Tehran and the family relocated to Tehran. This transition allowed Amini to focus more seriously on painting. Eventually, she resigned from the Ministry of Education in order to dedicate herself fully to art.

Artistic Training and Influences

Throughout her artistic career, Amini studied under several prominent Iranian artists and educators. She took her first artistic steps in Qazvin under the guidance of Mohammad Bagher Asefzadeh. Later, she studied with Abbas Shorveh, where she learned drawing fundamentals, anatomy, figure drawing, and plein-air techniques.

She also trained in drawing and printmaking with Ahmad Vakili and Professor Nasr, and attended courses in art history and color theory taught by Rouin Pakbaz. Working alongside Mansoureh Hosseini at Arya Gallery provided her with valuable experience in exhibition activities.

Amini also attended classes with Hannibal Alkhas, where she explored ink painting techniques and gained experience teaching art to children. In addition, she studied Chinese painting methods and ink techniques on rice paper with Master Fu.

Artistic Style and Techniques

The works of Firoozeh Amini are characterized by a poetic fusion of human figures and nature. Her paintings often carry an expressive and emotional atmosphere. Over the years, she has experimented with a wide range of artistic techniques and materials.

One of her most notable mediums is ink painting, which she favors because of its speed, spontaneity, and expressive qualities. She has also worked extensively in printmaking and collage, and her mixed-media assemblages have attracted considerable attention.

In her later works, acrylic became her primary medium due to its fast-drying properties, which allowed greater freedom and immediacy in execution. She has also explored sculpture and texture-making through the use of clay and papier-mâché.

Exhibitions and Artistic Activities

Firoozeh Amini held her first group exhibition in 1991 at Noor Gallery in Tehran. Since then, she has organized numerous solo exhibitions at well-known galleries such as Sabz Gallery, Arya Gallery, and Elaheh Gallery.

Her work has also been exhibited internationally. In Norway, her still-life paintings were displayed in the Iranian pavilion. She participated in exhibitions in the United States, including the “Trees of My Homeland” exhibition, where her ink paintings were presented.

In addition, her works have appeared in group exhibitions in Paris, Malaysia, and Brussels. Altogether, Amini has participated in more than seventy group exhibitions, and her artworks have been published in various art books and catalogues.

Achievements and Recognition

Firoozeh Amini is considered one of the active and respected contemporary Iranian artists of her generation. Through decades of artistic dedication, participation in national and international exhibitions, and collaboration with distinguished masters, she has established a notable position within contemporary Iranian art. Her extensive exhibition record and the publication of her works in artistic collections remain among her most important professional achievements.
