Nasrollah Pourjavady Information

Nasrollah Pourjavady is an Iranian scholar specializes in Islamic and Iranian philosophy, mysticism and Persian Literature. He studied Philosophy at San Francisco State University, where he received his B.A. degree in 1967, and at the University of Tehran where he received his M.A. degree in 1971 and his Ph. D degree in 1978.

He was a professor of Philosophy at the University of Tehran until 2008, when he retired. He also taught as guest professor at the Gregorian University in Rome, Colgate University in U.S.A (2002), University of Maryland, and University of North California.

He has written extensively on Persian Sufism in Persian and in Arabic. In English , he translated the work of Ahmad Ghazzali on mystical love, the Sawanih, and classical Persian Sufi Poetry in co-operation with Peter L. Wilson.

He was the founding director of Iran University Press (Until 2004) and he is a permanent member of the Academy of Persian Language and Literature.

He was awarded the Humboldt Prize in Germany for Oriental Studies in 2005. Nasrollah Pourjavady has three sons: Amir-Hossein, Reza, and Ahmad.
