Iran Gorgin, a prominent writer, editor, and researcher, was born on March 18, 1932, in Isfahan, Iran, to a father from Bushehr and a mother from Isfahan. She is recognized as one of the most influential figures in the field of education and children’s literature in Iran. Her significant contributions to the Peyk magazines and the Children and Adolescents’ Encyclopedia have played a vital role in enhancing the intellectual development of multiple generations.

Education and Early Career

In 1955, Iran Gorgin joined the Ministry of Culture as a first-grade elementary school teacher. The following year, she was admitted to university in the fields of philosophy, educational sciences, English literature, and Persian literature. Due to her keen interest in existentialism, she chose to study philosophy.

After completing her studies, Gorgin began teaching Persian literature and philosophy at high schools in Tehran. In 1961, she married Hassan Marandi, a political activist who had spent five years in prison.

Work with Peyk Magazines

Gorgin’s professional writing career began in 1973 when she authored an article titled Siyavash Passing Through Fire for Peyk-e Javanan (Youth Peyk). The article was well-received, and she was subsequently transferred to the Educational Publications Center.

She started as a writer and later became the assistant editor of Peyk-e Javanan. In 1977, she was appointed as the editor-in-chief of Peyk-e Danesh Amouz (Student Peyk). Gorgin emphasized that the editors of the Peyk magazines were chosen for their strong cultural backgrounds, passion for research, and writing skills.

One of her most popular contributions to the Peyk magazines was a series of articles on the stories of the Shahnameh. Her engaging writing style and carefully chosen titles inspired students to delve into these epic tales of Persian literature.

Collaboration with the Children and Adolescents’ Encyclopedia

After completing her work with the Peyk magazines, Gorgin joined the editorial team of the Children and Adolescents’ Encyclopedia in 1981 by writing an article on Abu Rayhan Biruni. Her collaboration with the encyclopedia has continued ever since, making her a key contributor to this monumental project.

Iran Gorgin’s articles, editorial work, and contributions to educational content have significantly impacted the cultural and intellectual development of Iranian children and adolescents. Her writings, particularly on Shahnameh studies and Iranian culture, remain highly valued and widely appreciated.
