Ehsan Eshraghi

Biography

Dr. Ehsan Eshraghi (September 6, 1928 – January 14, 2020) was an Iranian historian, Iranologist, Safavid studies scholar, editor of historical texts, translator, and distinguished professor at the University of Tehran. Widely recognized as one of Iran’s foremost historians, particularly in the field of Safavid history, he devoted more than six decades to teaching, research, and academic administration. He was a Permanent Member of the Academy of Sciences of Iran and served as the Head of its History Department. Due to his profound scholarly influence, he was often referred to as the “Dean of Iranian Historians” (Sheikh al-Mowarrekhin).
