Novin Afrooz

Novin Ismaili Afrooz was born on September 1, 1941, in Tehran. He immigrated to Italy with his family as a child. He completed his primary education at the French School in Milan. He then went to the Joseph Beverly Conservatory in the city and received his music diploma. He also attended the classes of the famous Italian pianist “Michael Angeli” and added to his music lessons. Novin Afrooz then traveled to Switzerland and continued his music education at the Geneva Conservatory. He has given several concerts in different countries and returned to Iran a few years after the 1978 revolution, and his first piano concert after the revolution was performed by him in Tehran’s Vahdat Hall. He is also the first foreign musician to perform classical music since the Cultural Revolution in China. In the summer of 2016, “after many years of music activity in the world arena and performing concerts at a high international level”, the Italian Knight Medal was awarded to Novin Afrooz in 2016 by Italian President Sergio Matarella. The documentary film The Poet’s Notes, directed by Maryam Slobi, is about the modern artistic life of Afrooz. Novin Afrooz is also active in the field of poetry and painting. Most of his paintings are painted with natural colors such as saffron, spinach, lipstick, and so on.
