Biography

Firouz Ardeshirian was born on October 25, 1945 (3 Mehr 1324 in the Iranian calendar) in Tehran, Iran. He is recognized as one of the prominent figures in Iran’s oil, gas, and petrochemical engineering sectors and has played a significant role in the development of domestic engineering capabilities and industrial technologies.

He pursued his higher education in engineering both in Iran and abroad:

  • B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from Sharif University of Technology (1971)
  • M.Sc. in Control Engineering from the University of Manchester (1974)

His academic background laid the foundation for a long and influential career in engineering consultancy, industrial management, and technology localization.

Professional Activities

Firouz Ardeshirian is considered one of the pioneers of technical and engineering consultancy in Iran’s oil, gas, and petrochemical industries. Throughout his career, he has contributed significantly to the growth of private engineering companies and the promotion of local engineering expertise.

Major Positions and Responsibilities

  • Chief Executive Officer of Namvaran Consulting Engineering Company (NCE) for 28 years, beginning in 1979
  • Chairman of the Board of:
    • Namvaran Pazhouhesh va Tose-a (NPT)
    • Namvaran Upstream (NUP)

Under his leadership, Namvaran became one of Iran’s leading private engineering consultancy firms, active in 11 engineering disciplines including:

At its peak, the company employed nearly 800 engineering specialists. During this period:

Chamaan Engineering and Fabrication

In 1995, Ardeshirian founded Chamaan Engineering and Fabrication Company (CEF), which focused on engineering design and fabrication of process equipment for the oil and gas industry.

The company successfully localized the design and manufacturing of several critical industrial units in Iran, including:

  • Bath heaters for high-pressure sour gas
  • Oil refinery furnaces
  • Gas dehydration units
  • Oil desalting units

These technologies had previously been dominated by foreign companies.

Namvaran Pazhouhesh va Tose-a

In 2008, he established Namvaran Pazhouhesh va Tose-a (NPT) with the objective of localizing refining and petrochemical technologies and developing innovative industrial processes.

The company employs approximately 160 engineers and has carried out process design and basic engineering for more than 100 industrial projects.

Namvaran Upstream

In 2012, he founded Namvaran Upstream (NUP) to provide engineering services in oil and gas exploration and production.

The company developed domestic capabilities in:

  • Geomechanical testing
  • Fluid analysis
  • Core analysis of oil and gas wells
  • Geomechanical modeling of oil and gas fields
  • Reservoir and field development studies

Many of these services had previously relied on foreign laboratories.

Innovations and Patents

A major aspect of Ardeshirian’s career has been his commitment to innovation, technology localization, and industrial self-sufficiency.

His registered patents include:

  • Pure Hexane Production Technology
  • Drag Reducing Agent (DRA) for oil and petroleum products
  • Synthetic Lubricating Oil

He also contributed to the development and fabrication of skid-mounted process units in collaboration with local research institutes.

Major Projects and Achievements

Among his notable professional achievements are:

  • Engineering and design services for the rehabilitation and modernization of the Abuzar offshore oil platforms in the Persian Gulf
  • Participation in major EPC projects in oil, gas, and petrochemical industries
  • Export of engineering and design services for refinery and pipeline projects in Syria
  • Coordination with foreign banks and insurance institutions for financing and guarantees of industrial projects
  • Active contribution to the implementation of Iran’s law promoting maximum utilization of domestic engineering and industrial capabilities

Awards and Honors

  • Named Outstanding Exporter of Technical and Engineering Services in 2005 by the Presidential Institution of Iran
  • Selected as Distinguished Mechanical Engineer of the Year 2005 by the Iranian Society of Mechanical Engineers (ISME)
  • Certified as a Level “A” Portfolio Director by IPMA Canada in 2011
