Mohsen Hashtroodi
Biography
Mohsen Hashtroodi (Hachtroudi) (alsoĀ romanizedĀ asĀ Mohsen HashtrÅ«di; December 13, 1908,Ā TabrizĀ ā September 4, 1976,Ā Tehran) was a prominentĀ IranianĀ mathematician, known as “Professor Hashtroodi (Hashtroudi)”. His father, Shaikh EsmÄeel Mojtahed was an advisor toĀ Shaikh Mohammad KhiÄbÄni, who played a significant role in the establishment of theĀ parliamentary democracyĀ inĀ IranĀ during and after theĀ Iranian Constitutional Revolution.
Mohsen Hashtroodi attendedĀ SirusĀ andĀ AghdasiehĀ primary schools in Tehran and subsequently studied at the Ć©lite school ofĀ Dar ol-Fonoon, also in Tehran, from where he graduated in 1925. He obtained his doctoral degree in mathematics in 1936 as student ofĀ Ćlie CartanĀ inĀ France. His doctoral dissertation (Sur les espaces d’Ć©lĆ©ments Ć connexion projective normale) was onĀ differential geometry. By significantly generalizing the work of Cartan to the case of hypersurfaces inĀ š
š, he constructed a projective connection used in studying systems of differential equations known as theĀ Hachtroudi Connection. His subsequent research involved using intrinsically defined affine and Weylian connections to study the invariants of differential systems relative to different groups of transformations.Ā He was a Distinguished Professor atĀ University of TabrizĀ andĀ University of Tehran. One of the Prizes ofĀ Iranian Mathematical SocietyĀ is named after Professor Hashtroodi.
Mohsen Hashtroodi married RobÄb Modiri in 1944. They had two daughters, FarÄnak andĀ FaribÄ, and one son, RÄmin.
Professor Hashtroodi is buried in theĀ Behesht-e ZahraĀ cemetery in Tehran.
