Biography

Bijan Bijani (born May 24, 1953, Babol) is a renowned Iranian singer and calligrapher. He is best known for his iconic song Nihanhaneye Del (The Concealment of the Heart), a reinterpretation of the Khorasani folk song Navaei Navaei, which has gained widespread acclaim.

Life and Education

Bijan Bijani was born in 1953 in Babol, Iran. His passion for calligraphy and singing emerged during his high school years, setting the foundation for his artistic career. His acquaintance with the Kamkar family, prominent figures in Iranian music, significantly shaped his musical journey. This connection led to his first album, The Legend of My Fatherland, composed by Arsalan Kamkar and performed with the Tehran Symphony Orchestra. Bijani also learned to play the setar under the guidance of Dariush Pirniakan and Ata Janguk, further honing his musical skills.

Artistic Career

As a singer with a warm and emotive voice, Bijani has made significant contributions to traditional and classical Iranian music. He has collaborated with distinguished composers such as Kambiz Roshanravan, Arsalan Kamkar, Pashang Kamkar, Mohammad Sarir, Ismail Vaseghi, Ismail Tehrani, Mohammad Javad Zarabian, and Ali Akbarpour. His works often explore themes of love, mysticism, and patriotism, resonating deeply with audiences.

In addition to his musical career, Bijani is an accomplished calligrapher. His calligraphic works were published in a collection titled Nay and Ney in 2018. His visual art has been showcased in numerous exhibitions, including the Veteran Artists Exhibition at Niavaran Cultural Center in November 2019. The fusion of music and calligraphy in his work highlights his multifaceted artistic talent.
