Biography

Derambakhsh, Kambiz (born in Shiraz, May, 29, 1942) Iranian caricaturist, graphic artist. He is the winner of a number of world important awards and up to the present time he has held many individual exhibitions in various countries of the world. Kmabiz Deram Bakhah was born in Shiraz in 1942 and was graduated from Tehran Fine Arts Conservatory. He is regarded as one of the pioneers of Iran caricature designers and possesses a special style in this art. When Deram Bakhsh was only 15 started his cooperation with the Iranian press including Tofiq – a comic magazine – and then he expanded his cooperation with foreign press too and many of his works were published in the papers like New York Times, Spiegel, Noble Spalter. As a whole it is 47 years that he is ceaselessly working with the Iranian and celebrated media of the world. For a while he taught art of caricature in the Faculty of Fine Arts of Tehran University. He has held more than 32 individual domestic and abroad exhibitions and has participated in 30 group Iranian and foreign exhibition. He has been awarded various prizes from the most celebrated international caricature competition in Japan, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, Turkey, Brazil, Yugoslavia as well as some second rate awards. He also has been chosen as international judge of the great caricature exhibitions throughout the world. He received the sign of Chevalier from the French Government in October, 2014. Many of the Dram Bakhsh’s Works are kept in the great world museums, including in the Tehran Contemporary Arts Museum, Basel Caricature Museum in Switzerland, Gaberov Caricature Museum of Bulgaria, Hiroshima Museum of Japan, Yugoslavia Anti War Museum, Istanbul Caricature Museum, Turkey, Warsaw Caricature Museum, Poland and the Municipality Collection of Frankfurt, Germany. He has published many books in the field of Illustrating and the principle caricature drawing, among them one may refer to the books of In the Absence of Description, The Diary of the Angels, The Book of Kambiz (published in Italy), The Joint Books of Iran Today Satirist, Iran Today Foreign Resident Satirists, Trample Not the Ant That Carries Grain, The Olympic of Laugher, Symphony of the Lines, If De Vinci Had Seen Me and a number of other books. Deram Bakhsh has shown his high pleasant taste in the fields of propaganda and publicity (book cover designing), children book illustration, poster, short film, postal card, calendar and so on and from 2007 he has stepped in the field of animation too. His close assistant in this latest field (i.e. animation) is his son, Ramin Deram Bakhsh and the outcome of this cooperation is a number of short animations such as the “Clowns”.
