Simin Ekrami
Simin is sculptor with unique affinity for organic materials and forms. Her figures speak to her from wood and stone. They emerge from their source as though suspended in animation and then released and give life by deft hand of the artist
Simin was born in Tehran , the youngest of four daughters. She was destined to be a sculptor. In 1968, having completed her high school, Simin left Iran for the United States. With many prestigious commissions and group exhibitions in Tehran, the sculpture of Simin Ekrami is beginning to attract wider notice. Ekrami studied in the US in the late 1960s before returning to Iran. This monograph shows her love of monolithic work, mixed media and big dimensions. Simins forms follow nature, but she is also renowned for the pride and firmness she brings to her strong female figures, faces and animals.
