Biography

Esbati, Amir (born 12 August 1956) Iran scene and clothes designer of cinema, television, and theater Childhood and Education He was born in a traditional family in a quarter of the south of Tehran and grown up in the Narmak quarter in the South-East of Tehran. Before the age of primary school, his grandma taught him writing and reading. He passed the primary course in Alavinia, a public school, and the second course in Ershad a non-public school (the third branch of Kharazmi high school). When he was a student he showed a great attachment to the cinema. Esbati despite his attachment to scene decorating attended the entering examination of Dramatic Arts Faculty in the field of designing but could not succeed and in the same year he successfully attended the entering examination of plastic art of the Faculty of Fine Arts of Tehran University and again in 1975 he attended in the entering examination of Faculty of Fine Arts in the branch of architecture but he could not finish the course due to the Cultural Revolution and university closure. Professional Activities Amir Esbati from the first year of university started to work in the field of art especially as a designer and within the years that terminated to the victory of the Revolution with the cooperation of his friends he held an exhibition of posters and designs with the theme of revolution in the Faculty of Fine Arts. Then he worked in the Film magazine as a designer of advertisements. Esbati started his cinema activities as a scene and clothes designer with the movie of Ganj (Treasure) directed by Mohammad Ali Sajjadi. In 1985 by designing and decorating the scene of the serial of Ali Koochooloo (The Young Ali) was invited to T.V. In the first years of the 1990s through designing the clothes of the artists of the serial “At Your Shelter” he was known as a gifted designer and from then on the cases of his cooperation with cinema and television enhanced. He was invited as scene decorator and clothing designer for various movies and T.V. serials. He also along with these artistic activities he continued to teach in the Faculty of Arts and Cinema Schools. Esbati has published some translated and written articles in cinematic publications.
