Biography

Garnik Der Hacopian (born in 23rd September 1944) Iranian contemporary painter Childhood and Education He was born Maraqa (one of towns of Western Azerbaijan) province and attended in the local schools in 1961. Due to interest in art, especially painting which was planted in him from early years he left his birth place for Tehran (the capital city of Iran to attend in the art schools and enrolled in Kamal-ol-molk Art School. Three years later he attended in the Art school of Fine Arts special for boys and in 1965 received his diploma from that institution. Then he succeeded to enter in the Faculty of Fine Arts of Tehran University and in 1971 graduated from that Faculty. Professional Activities Garnik during the years of studying and after finishing the course of art school was working in various branches of designing, graphic designing, painting, sculpturing and architecture, and also was teaching these arts and techniques. By employing concrete in his works blended the Armenian tradition that its history traces back to many hundred years ago with European cubism and gradually attain to a special visual language. He travelled many Iran regions to study about architecture and visited many foreign countries such as India, Sri Lanka, Greece, England, France, Germany, Italy and Cyprus to become familiar with traditional and native arts of the western and eastern societies to serve the art of Iran as much as better. His professional background is as follows: Teaching designing in Van Gogh Atelier (1965) teaching and painting in a private atelier (1964-1966), working in the Ministry of culture and Art as a graphic designer, working in the Ferdowsy shop as designer and the decorator of windows of the shop (1968), teaching designing and principles of graphic in the college of construction (2004-8), working in the Graphic Organization in the fields of graphic, designing, painting and architecture (1967-1974) working in the Shahrbod Engineering Consulting Company in the field of Architecture (1979-2004) working in the Farnahad Engineering Consulting Company in the field of architecture and controlling (2005-2008). Later he refrained from any job and allotted most of his time to painting and creating various works. Garnic der Hakopian, is one of the members of the group of Qandriz Hall (1960), the group which was very active and left a great impression upon Iran art, the other members of the group were Rooin Pakbaz, Mansoor Qandriz, Mohammad Reza Jodat, Mir Hossein Mansoori and others.
