Wahed Khakdan

Biography

Khakdan, Wahed (born in 1950) Iranian eminent contemporary painter He was born in a family who were originally Azari; by the formation of the Soviet Union, his parents who were young at that time along with their families were expelled from Soviet Russia. They returned to Iran and resided in Tehran and then married in their new residence. His father, Valiolla Khakdan was a theater and cinema decorator and Wahed due to his father‘s job, became familiar with the artistic sphere from the very childhood. He passed the primary school in Roshdieh and the second course in Hadaf and then he followed his childhood attachments and enrolled in the Conservatory of Fine Arts Special for boys and he was graduated in 1971 and then entered the Faculty of Decorative Arts, after succeeding in its entering examination and at length in 1976 he was graduated from the department of interior architecture. Professional Activities Wahed Khakdan who is regarded as a Hyper Realist painter held his first exhibition in 1974 in Seyhoon Gallery in Tehran. In 1978 after the victory of the Islamic Revolution he created some works in the field of social and emotional issues and held a number of exhibition activities and by benefiting from his father’s instruction he started to decorate the theater scenes and make puppets for theater and television including: – A designing puppet for fairy fate of miraculous bean; directed by Ardeshir Keshavarz and performed in Shahr Theater, 1980 – Scene Decorating and clothes and mask designing for the film “Meadow, the Children’s Friend” directed by Reza Jiyan, Shahr Theater, 1982 – Scene decorating and puppet making for the television performance of “The Story of Glow Worm” directed by Ardeshir Keshavarz, 1986 Wahed left Iran for Germany in 1984 and established his first atelier in Oberhausen in Germany. He is a prolific artist and has held many individual and group exhibitions in various countries and within years of 1983 to 2010 he has illustrated more than 40 children and young adult books, he also possesses close relations with the publishers of Iran, Germany, Switzerland, and Austria.
