Biography

Maleki, Farshid (born 1943) Persian contemporary painter Childhood and Education He was born in Tehran, the capital city of Iran, and from early years he showed great interest in painting. When he was a high school student he entered into the free painting classes of Kamal-ol-molk Art School. Those days that art school was managed by Mahmood Oliya who was one of the direct apprentices of Kamal-ol-molk, the great Iranian painter. He completed the high school course in 1962 in the branch of mathematics from the Sharaf high school which was located in one of the Tehran old quarters and after finishing the military service he entered in the Faculty of Decorative Arts and graduated from that faculty in 1968 in graphic branch. Among his masters in this course he named Dr. Kiay, Dr Riyazi, Saffari, Hamidi and Emami. Later, in 1978 Farshid Maleki by receiving a scholarship from the Reading University left Iran for England and retuned Iran with a master degree in the field of painting. Professional Activities Farshid Maleki after finishing the high school course he started to work in Gardooneh, a propaganda institute as a graphic artist and this cooperation continued within the years that he was a university student. After graduating from university he was employed by the Iran National T.V. as a decorator and then was sent to England to complete his studies. On 1978 after receiving his M.A. and also due to the victory of Islamic revolution he returned Iran and started to teach in Farabi university up to 1980. For the sake of the occurrence of Cultural Revolution, he was suspended for three years and then he was invited to university as an assistant professor and for 30 years he taught painting in the university of Art, Azad University and Alzahra University. The modern space of the Faculty of Decorative Arts and cooperating with his old fellow students like Morteza Momayyez, Qandriz, Jodat and Pakbaz and also the establishment of Qandriz Hall left a great effect on the manner of his painting. He is one of the members of the second generation artists belongs to Iran modern style. He himself divided the courses of his works into two different sections: in the first phase, namely the phase of Qandriz Hall, he used to employ the African totems and woven items and the second phase which has been continued up to the present time covers the figurative works.
