Biography

Mohammad Nasser Modoodi, born on September 26, 1970, in Taybad, Khorasan Province, Iran, is an Iranian author, environmental activist, and researcher. Coming from a military family, he spent his childhood in various cities, including Torbat-e Jam, Taybad, and Hamedan.

Early Life and Education

Modoodi completed his primary education at Shishom Bahman Elementary School and his secondary education at Chamran High School. During his childhood, he spent much of his time at the library of the Institute for the Intellectual Development of Children and Young Adults, where his passion for books and literature was sparked.

In 1989, after passing the national university entrance exam, he enrolled at Ferdowsi University of Mashhad, studying agriculture. Later, he pursued environmental studies and was accepted into a master’s program in this field in 1997. After completing his studies, he returned to his hometown of Taybad in 2000. Modoodi also lived in India for a period, where he continued his education, earning a Ph.D. in environmental studies.

Professional Career

Upon returning to Taybad in 2000, Modoodi began writing stories for children and young adults. He is a prolific author in this genre, with notable works including the Shahnameh for Children and Young Adults series, an adaptation of Ferdowsi’s Shahnameh written in simple language suitable for younger readers. Some titles in this series include:

  • Shahnameh for Children and Young Adults (Volume 3)
  • Shahnameh for Children and Young Adults (Volume 4: Kayanian 2)
  • Shahnameh for Children and Young Adults (Second Series: From Kay Khosrow to Goshtasp)

Additionally, Modoodi authored The Veiled Beauty: A Kabul Travelogue, a travel memoir documenting his observations of Kabul’s security situation and cultural landscape nine months before the city fell to the Taliban.

Environmental Activism

As an environmental activist, Modoodi has demonstrated a strong commitment to environmental preservation and raising awareness about ecological issues, informed by his academic background in environmental studies.
