Biography

Bagher Saroukhani (born November 12, 1939, Qazvin) is a prominent Iranian sociologist and retired professor of the Sociology Department at the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Tehran. He is widely regarded as the father of communication sociology in Iran. His books primarily focus on sociology, communication, family studies, and research methods.

 Early Life

Bagher Saroukhani was born in 1939 in Salehieh Alley on Molavi Street in southern Qazvin, in what he describes as a modest family with only his mother present. The house lacked basic amenities such as running water, electricity, telephone, radio, or refrigerator.

 Education

– Primary and secondary education in Qazvin (top rank in the county)

– Bachelor’s degree in French Language and Literature and Educational Sciences, Higher Teachers’ College, Tehran, 1961 (top rank)

– Master’s degree in Social Sciences, University of Tehran, 1963 (sent to France due to top rank)

– Bachelor’s degree in Sociology, Sorbonne University, Paris

– State Doctorate (Doctorat d’État) in Sociology, Sorbonne University, Paris, 1968 (with highest honors; thesis published in Paris)

– Head of Social Psychology Section, Institute for Social Studies and Research, 1970–1973

– Deputy Director, Institute for Social Studies and Research, 1971–1973
