Afshin Shahroodi
Biography
Afshin Shahroudi (born October 8, 1950, Damghan) is an Iranian photographer, poet, and art critic. Renowned for his contributions to Iranian photography, he has left a significant mark on the visual arts and literature through his poetic imagery and critical writings. As the nephew of the famous poet Ismail Shahroudi, his work reflects a deep connection to artistic expression.
Life and Education
Afshin Shahroudi was born in 1950 in Damghan, Iran. He completed his primary education in Damghan and pursued his high school and university studies in Tehran. Shahroudi graduated from the University of Art in Tehran with a degree in visual communication. He began his professional photography career in 1975, influenced by his upbringing in an artistic family, which infused his photographic work with a poetic sensibility.
Professional Activities
Shahroudi has extensive experience in various fields of photography, including documentary and artistic photography. Over the past two decades, he has been an active and influential juror in numerous prestigious photography exhibitions and competitions in Iran. He has also taught photography at universities and cultural institutions, contributing to the education of aspiring photographers.
In addition to his photographic work, Shahroudi has written numerous articles on the critique, analysis, and review of photography, published in specialized and cultural periodicals. He served as the owner and editor-in-chief of the Creative Photography magazine, playing a key role in promoting photography culture in Iran. Shahroudi has held solo exhibitions in Iran, France, and Germany and participated in over 40 group exhibitions at national and international levels. In 2011, he was recognized by the “Committee for Organizing Global Masters” under the auspices of South Korea’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs as one of the world’s distinguished visual arts masters. He is also a member of the board of directors of the Iranian Photographers Association.
