Biography

Talaei, Dariush (born Feb.14, 1952), Iranian Musician and music trainer Childhood and Educations when he was only ten and a student of primary school he attended the higher conservatory of music and chose the tar (a Persian musical instrument with 6 strings) as his special musical instrument. In 1971 he entered the Faculty of Fine Arts of Tehran University and at 24 he was accepted as a member of the scientific board of Tehran University. Due to the experiences who had achieved in the performance of the Golestan Ballet under the supervision of Maurice Bejart, French-born dancer and opera director, at the age of 18, in 1979 he succeeded to receive a scholarship from France to follow his studies in the field of music and left Iran for France. Among his main trainers, he recalls Ali Akbar Shahnazi, Abdollah Davami, Yousef Forootan, Saeed Hormozi, and Noor Ali Bromand. Professional Activities Dariush Talaei along with studying at the Tehran university was appointed as the supervisor of the group for recreating the immortal works of Iran music modes in the Center for Preservation and Promotion of Iranian Music and when he was in France through holding concerts and training classes he introduced the Persian music to foreigners. Within the years of 1979 and 1989 he taught Persian Music in the Center of Oriental Music affiliated to Sorbonne University in Paris and then within the years of 1991 to 1992 he held the same music teaching classes in the Washington University. At the present time, he is a member of the Scientific Board of Paradise Music Group of Tehran University, Faculty of Fine Arts. Achievements Darius Talaei as a professional musician from the very beginning has followed seriously three trends of teaching, performing, and researching. In the field of performance with 40 years of experience, he has held hundreds of concerts mostly out of Iran to introduce Iran’s genuine classic music and has received many prizes through participating in various art competitions, cultural arts festivals as well as university centers. In the theoretical ground, he has studied various aspects of Iranian music from the view of scientific feature, acoustic, phonology and possesses an acclaiming knowledge of the specifications of music instruments and their sound quality, which are a part of Iran music culture. He has held classes both in Iran and overseas universities has compiled many books in the field of music. Heretofore more than 20 gramophone disc, tape, and CD of his performances have been presented both in Iran and out of Iran, and also some of his pedagogic videos and a detailed and complete course of his vocal repertoire have been presented in an album that covers 13 CD.
