Ahmadreza Ahmadi
Biography
Ahmadreza Ahmadi (20 May 1940 – 11 July 2023) was an Iranian poet and screenwriter. He was one of the prominent figures of the “New Wave poetry movement” in Iran.
Ahmadi was born in 1940 in Kerman, Iran. He moved to Tehran in 1948. In Tehran, he attended the “Adab” school. Then, in 1954, entered Dar ol-Fonoun. According to Ahmadi, writer Abdorrahim Ahmadi (his maternal nephew) and Mohammad Shirvāni (his teacher at Dar ol-Fonoun), were instrumental in the development of his love for literature.
Ahmadi’s first book of poetry, Tarh, was published in 1962. His poetry had its roots in French Surrealism and the American Imagists, especially from poets such as Saint John Perse, Paul Éluard, Louis Aragon, and Ezra Pound.
Ahmadi died on 11 July 2023, at the age of 83.
