Sirous Alinajad | Iranian Journalist and Author

Born: 1945, Kakerud, Rudsar, Iran
Profession: Journalist, Writer, Editor

Early Life and Education

Sirous Alinajad was born in 1945 in Kakerud, a village in the Ashkour region of Rudsar County, Iran. At the age of six, he moved with his family to Nowshahr, where he completed his primary and secondary education. He later pursued higher education at the School of Communication Sciences in Tehran.

Journalistic Career

In the summer of 1970, while still a university student, Alinajad joined the Ayandegan newspaper as a reporter. Within a year, he was promoted to Deputy Editor-in-Chief, a position he held until October 1977.

During this period, he covered significant cultural and political events, including the Goethe Institute Poetry Nights organized by the Iranian Writers’ Association. However, after publishing a report by Mohammad Ghaed about these poetry readings, he was dismissed from Ayandegan due to government pressure.

Post-Revolution Journalism

After the 1979 Iranian Revolution, Alinajad resumed his journalistic career. He became the Editor-in-Chief of the monthly magazine “Sabz” and later Deputy Editor of “Tehran Mosavar” magazine. However, with the closure of press outlets in 1979, he was forced into a temporary hiatus.

In 1983, he joined the Sanat-e-Haml-o-Naql Transport Industry magazine. In 1985, alongside Faraj Sarkuhi, Massoud Behnoud, and Gholamhossein Zakeri, he co-founded Adineh magazine, becoming its first Editor-in-Chief. Adineh soon became one of the most influential independent Iranian magazines of the 1980s and 1990s.

Following his tenure at Adineh, he continued his work in various publications, including Donyaye Sokhan, Safar, Zaman, and Payam-e Emrooz. He has remained active in journalism, publishing articles in Iranian newspapers, BBC Persian, and Jadid Online.
