Biography
Hadi Khaniki, born on October 30, 1950 (registered birth date: July 19, 1951) in the village of Khanik near Gonabad, is a prominent Iranian journalist, scholar, and professor of communication sciences. He is one of the leading figures in media studies and a key advocate for civil society and dialogue in Iran. Khaniki is also a central council member of the Union of Islamic Iran People Party and previously served in the central council of the Islamic Iran Participation Front.
Education
Khaniki graduated with a diploma in Mathematics and Physics from Shahreza High School in Mashhad in 1969. He began his university education in Mathematics at Shiraz University but left it unfinished. He also pursued studies in Civil Engineering and National Urban Development at Shiraz University and Iran University of Science and Technology, but he did not complete these programs.
Eventually, he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Social Research from Shahid Beheshti University in 1985. His growing interest in communication sciences led him to pursue a Master’s degree in Communication at Allameh Tabataba’i University, which he completed in 1995. He obtained his Ph.D. in Communication Sciences from the same university in 2002.
Professional Roles and Leadership
During Mohammad Khatami’s presidency, Khaniki served as a senior media and press advisor, later transitioning to the role of cultural advisor. His contributions during this period were instrumental in shaping media and cultural policies.
As Deputy Minister of Culture and Social Affairs at the Ministry of Science, Research, and Technology, he was the architect behind the creation of student cultural, artistic, and social associations in Iranian universities. This initiative significantly enriched the cultural and social activities of Iranian students.
Khaniki also served as the editor-in-chief of two prominent publications, Ayin and Ayin-e Goftogu, both of which were unfortunately banned in 2011 due to their critical content and cultural discourse.
